Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes

Remember the old song “Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes”? Most of us can still hear it in our heads—and maybe even picture the hand motions that went along with it.
While it may seem like a simple children’s song, it actually highlights something important about the human body: everything is connected.
The Body Works as a Connected System
Your body is designed to move as one coordinated system. When one area isn’t moving well, other areas often have to compensate. Over time, those compensation patterns can place extra stress on muscles, joints, and connective tissues.
For example:
A restriction in the foot or ankle can affect the knee, hip, and even the low back
Hip or pelvic imbalances can place extra stress on the knees and spine
Shoulder restrictions can influence neck tension and upper back discomfort
Jaw dysfunction can contribute to headaches and neck strain
This is why pain in one area doesn’t always mean the problem started in that exact spot.
It’s Not Just “Where It Hurts”
Many people are surprised to learn that the area causing pain is not always the area that needs the most attention. The body adapts over time, changing the way it moves to compensate for restrictions elsewhere. These altered movement patterns can eventually lead to discomfort in multiple areas.
That’s why a thorough chiropractic evaluation looks beyond the point of pain and considers how the entire body is moving and functioning together.
Beyond the Spine: Extremity Adjustments
When most people think of chiropractic care, they think of the spine. While spinal health is a major focus, chiropractors also evaluate the function of other joints throughout the body.
At Perfect Alignment Chiropractic, Dr. Eddie also evaluates and performs extremity adjustments when appropriate, including the shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, ankles, feet, and jaw. These adjustments are designed to help restore proper joint motion, improve mobility, and support overall function.
A Whole-Body Approach to Care
Every patient is different, which is why treatment is tailored to the individual. Some people come in with neck or back pain, while others notice issues in the shoulders, hips, knees, or other joints.
The goal is always the same: help the body move and function more efficiently so patients can get back to the activities they enjoy.
The Body Is Connected
There’s an old song many people remember from childhood: “Dem Bones.” It goes, “The foot bone’s connected to the ankle bone… the ankle bone’s connected to the leg bone…”
While the song is playful, it illustrates an important concept: the body functions as an interconnected system. When one joint isn’t moving the way it should, it can influence how other parts of the body move, function, and feel.
Maybe those old childhood songs were onto something after all—our bodies really are connected.
