Man holding his back in pain

Back pain can be complicated. Whether it develops suddenly or gradually over time, finding relief isn't always straightforward. With so many treatment options available, from chiropractic care and physical therapy to medications, injections, and surgery, where do you start?

What Does the Research Say?

The American College of Physicians recommends non-drug treatments as a first-line approach for many types of low back pain. Depending on the condition, these may include spinal manipulation (chiropractic), massage, acupuncture, and exercise-based therapies. These approaches can help reduce pain and improve function while avoiding some of the risks associated with medications and more invasive procedures.

Treating More Than Just the Pain

Pain relief is important, but improving how your body moves and functions matters, too.

Conservative care focuses on addressing factors that may contribute to back pain, including joint restrictions, muscle tension, weakness, and limited mobility.

Because no two patients are exactly alike, the best treatment approach depends on the underlying cause of your pain, your symptoms, and your personal goals. Treatment options may include:

  • Chiropractic adjustments to improve joint mobility and address restrictions.

  • Soft tissue and muscle manipulation to help relieve tension and improve movement.

  • Core strengthening and exercise rehabilitation to support the spine, improve stability, and build strength.

  • Physical therapy or acupuncture as additional conservative treatment options.

The goal isn't just temporary relief. It's helping your body move better, function better, and stay active.

What If Conservative Care Isn't Enough?

Sometimes additional treatment is necessary. If symptoms aren't improving as expected, a referral to a medical provider may be appropriate for further evaluation, medication, injections, or even surgery when indicated.

The bottom line? Start with the least invasive treatment appropriate for your condition, focus on restoring function, and explore additional options when necessary.

At Perfect Alignment Chiropractic, we believe in finding the right approach for every patient. Our goal is simple: to help you move better, feel better, and get back to doing the things you love.
