If you've ever been to a chiropractor, you may have heard the word subluxation — but what exactly does it mean? And more importantly, what does it mean for you and your health?

🧠 Fun Fact: Subluxation Literally Means…

Sub = less than, Luxation= dislocation. So a subluxation is a less-than-dislocation — a joint that’s not where it should be, but hasn’t completely come apart.

💡 The Definition of a Subluxation

In chiropractic terms, a subluxation is when a spinal vertebra (bone) is misaligned or not moving properly — and it’s causing interference in the nervous system. Even small misalignments can irritate nearby nerves, restrict motion, and throw off how your body communicates and functions. Over time, subluxations can lead to pain, tension, fatigue, or even symptoms in areas you wouldn’t expect.

⚠️ What Causes Subluxations?

Subluxations can happen for all kinds of reasons, including:

  • Physical stress (falls, car accidents, poor posture)

  • Repetitive motion or lifting

  • Emotional stress and tension

  • Chemical stress (inflammation, poor nutrition, dehydration)

Sometimes it’s one big trauma — other times it’s lots of small ones over time.

🤯 Why It Matters

Your spine protects your central nervous system, which controls every organ, muscle, and tissue in your body. So when a vertebra is out of alignment and pressing on or irritating a nerve, it’s like having static in a phone line — messages from the brain get distorted or delayed.

Even if you’re not feeling pain yet, a subluxation could be affecting:

  • Digestion

  • Energy levels

  • Sleep

  • Hormonal balance

  • Range of motion and flexibility

And in some cases, subluxations — especially in the neck — can cause or contribute to headaches and migraines.

✅ How Chiropractic Helps

Chiropractic adjustments locate and gently correct subluxations, restoring healthy movement and removing interference from the nervous system. That’s why many patients say they sleep better, breathe easier, or even feel more relaxed after an adjustment — the body is finally functioning the way it was designed to.

🌱 Health Is About More Than Just Feeling Good

At our office, we don’t just chase symptoms — we focus on restoring function and helping your body do what it does best: heal itself. Even kids and babies can have them — especially after birth, tumbles, sports, or school backpack strain.
